# What should I expect between root canal appointments?

**Quick answer:** The tooth should feel considerably better after stage one. Some tenderness when biting is normal.

Root canal therapy is completed across three appointments. Between them a temporary filling protects the tooth.

- Chew on the other side where you can
- Mild tenderness when biting is normal
- Take pain relief as you normally would if you need it

## When to get in touch

If the temporary filling comes out, if pain returns and worsens, or if the tooth swells, contact us rather than waiting for the next stage.

**Note:** Completing all three stages matters. A tooth left partway through treatment can become infected again.
