# What is a dependent, and what can they do?
**Quick answer:** A dependent is a child under 18 managed under your account. You book their appointments, complete their forms and see their records, all from your own login.
## Adding a dependent
Sign in to your own account, then go to **Profile \> Dependents \> Add**.
## What you can do
- Book, reschedule and cancel their appointments
- Book their offered appointments and prescribed treatments
- Pay for their appointments
- Complete their medical history and allergies
- See their records and x-rays
## Where to find things
- **Appointments and prescribed treatments:** go to Appointments, then toggle to your dependent
- **Records:** go to Profile \> Records, then toggle to your dependent
- **Medical history and allergies:** go to Profile \> Dependents \> Medical history
Once an appointment is booked, you can also complete their medical history from the carousel on the app home screen, or from the link in the SMS and email reminders.
## When they turn 18
Their health information becomes private to them, so they move to their own account:
1. They create their own Dental 99 account.
2. They get in touch with us.
3. We merge the accounts, which transfers all of their records across.
If you still want to book and pay for them after that, link your accounts.
**Note:** A parent or guardian should be present at appointments for children.
